De Venlose binnenstad is tijdens de Vastelaovend het epicentrum van de viering in Groët-Venlo. De hele stad is afgeladen vol met fanatieke Vastelaovesvierders die zijn uitgedost in de mooiste pekskes en schminkcreaties. De opening van de Limburgse Vastelaovend vindt plaats tijdens de Brand Beer Boetegewoeëne Boetezitting in de Zoepkoel.

Vastelaovend in Venlo. Venlo heet tijdens carnaval, ofwel Vastelaovend in Limburg, ook wel 't Jocus Riék of 't stedje van lol en plezeer. Vastelaovend in Venlo wordt georganiseerd door Jocus, de carnavalsvereniging. De centrale kleuren in Venlo zijn rood-geel-blauw (de Venlose vlag) en het Venlose dialect speelt een belangrijke rol.

Tijdens carnaval 2023 startten veel activiteiten al op vrijdag 17 februari en in sommige steden/dorpen eindigde carnaval pas op Aswoensdag 22 februari.
