The place where the current church stands was already a place of worship in Pre-Christian times. It is likely that a stave church was built before the present stone church. Present day Bro Church was built during the 13th century evolving from the Romanesque style to the Gothic style. The interior of Bro Church is one of the most richly decorated on the island.
